Quick & Dirty HR Tech Tips: Mobility and HR Technology

Hassanah Rudd
What's the issue?

Mobility in HR technology all boils down to efficiency. Giving people access to HR technology on mobile platforms means they can perform the tasks they have to do at home, on their morning commute, wherever they happen to be. Sometimes it is even more than a “nice to haveâ€'- if you have a large sales force for example that need access to HR technology from the road, this is where mobility is absolutely essential.

What are we doing wrong?

I think a lot of companies treat mobility as an afterthought when it comes to their HR technology. They think “we've got this beautiful piece of softwareâ€' and then try and cram it into a mobile platform. It inevitably comes out looking terrible and providing a horrible user experience. And the minute it starts looking unpleasant your people are not going to use it.

How do we fix it?

You've probably invested a substantial amount of money into a piece of HR technology- you better make sure people use it! To do this your mobile HR technology must give users a great experience. I think it's essential that companies partner with a vendor that understands mobile and can build with this in mind. Remember you're competing with the multitude of other apps people have downloaded on their devices that generally have great user experience, so your HR tech needs to match and even exceed this experience.
